Health Systems Strengthening in Latin America and the Caribbean

Social protection in health schemes for mother, newborn and child populations: lessons learned from the Latin American Region - This publication is the culmination of three years of joint work between PAHO’s Health System & Services and Family & Community Health Areas and it is the first of its kind as related to the systematization of social health protection schemes for mother and child populations currently in place in the Latin American Region. The book presents a framework to monitor the performance of social protection in health schemes and its application on seven case studies.

	Virtual Campus of Public Health: was created within the context of the "Public Health in the Americas" Initiative as a response to the need for strengthening institutional capacities and the competences of health workers responsible for performing the essential public health functions in the countries of the Region. The courses offered by the Campus are defined according to the political orientations, mandates, and strategic objectives of the Pan American Health Organization established by its Member States, such as the Health Agenda for the Americas 2008–2017.

The 4th International Course on Health Systems Development will take place from October 12th to the 31st, 2008. The main course objective is to strengthen the capacities of the participants in the analysis and formulation of strategies, plans and projects of intervention, thus helping to improve governance and performance of health systems in the region.
